Hong Kong political philosopher Joseph Chan 香港政治哲學學者陳祖為

Joseph Chan Cho Wai’s fundamental research interest is political philosophy with a dual focus on classical and contemporary Confucianism and contemporary Western political philosophy. In the last two decades, he has expanded his interests to include the concept of social cohesion, civil society in Hong Kong, and political legitimacy from East Asian perspectives. He has made significant contributions to three areas: Confucian political philosophy, the debate between liberalism and perfectionism, and social cohesion.

Many of his articles appeared in international journals in different fields: in western philosophy, Philosophy & Public Affairs, Ethics, and Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society; in Chinese philosophy, Philosophy East and West, Dao, and Journal of Chinese Philosophy; in politics and social sciences, China Quarterly, Journal of Contemporary China, History of Political Thought, Journal of Democracy, and Social Indicators Research; and in law, Oxford Journal of Legal Studies. Many of his book chapters have been published by university presses such as Cambridge, Oxford, and Princeton. His single-authored book was published by Princeton.
